Blueline’s Night: What I Wore party, and Big Freedia’s Big Gay BBQ

bluelinestyle:

Last night What I Wore blogger Jessica Quirk and the Blueline crew celebrated the release of her first book! She had such and amazing turnout and the place looked FAB!

Afterwords, we all went to Mailbu Grill and celebrated with some drinks.

Then it was time to head over to Big Freedia’s Big Gay BBQ. Jenna showed off her sweet hula hooping skills. Fun times were had by all.

I think we all had our fill of Booty Bouncing for the year.

Archaeologists dig in basement of southern Indiana courthouse, searching for 1800s artifacts

archaeologicalnews:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Some archaeologists have been digging in the basement of a southern Indiana courthouse trying to learn more about the history of the site going back to the 1800s.

Indiana University archaeologist Cheryl Munson says the current Monroe County Courthouse was completed in 1908. But the downtown Bloomington spot previously also included a firehouse complete with a horse stable, along with a bell tower and the county’s first library.

The Herald-Times reports Munson and some volunteer archeologists spent two days last week on the dig. Their finds included a piece of plaster painted robin-egg blue that might be from the previous courthouse, some bottles, a brass doorknob and a brick stamped with “B.Co.”

Munson suspects many historical artifacts are buried beneath the courthouse lawn and would love to dig there. (source)

My dad got his engineering degree and then worked in a limestone mill for much of my life before moving into non-profit management. This is a cool little video about Indiana Limestone from a journalism undergrad at IU whose website I just came across. I really enjoy the shot of the subject in a cloud of limestone dust when he’s carving. Dad used to come home covered in the stuff and the inside of his truck was never free of it.

Lunch for Lauren

Bloomington residents are continuing to help in the search for missing IU student Lauren Spierer.  At today’s press conference, her mother asked that all Bloomington and Monroe county residents take 20 minutes to recheck their properties or areas surrounding their office places.

There are also a lot of empty houses/apartments while students are gone for the summer, so if you’re a neighbor to one of those places, keep an eye out there as well.
